Using Cultural Studies to Drive Language and Literacy Development

Language is communication conveyed verbally and/or through the written word. The content of what is communicated needs to be relevant, interesting to the child, and purpose-driven in order to be motivating. The purpose can be because the learner wants to share, wants to know more, or wants to save it. The content is vital to communication. So often, work on language skills is presented to the child as an empty exercise with random, irrelevant content. The Montessori Cultural curriculum can be integrated in order to help the child make connections and used to motivate communication through language.
