Preparing the Hand for Writing

This workshop is appropriate for primary guides, elementary guides, and parents
Description: What do we mean by preparing the hand for writing? This process begins long before the materials that are “officially” meant to practice those particular skills. In order to write, a child’s hand needs to be physically capable of holding and controlling a pencil. When introduced before the hand is ready, writing can be uncomfortable, frustrating to use, or worse, the child will develop a poor pencil grip. In this session, participants will learn how Dr. Montessori’s brilliantly constructed Practical Life materials meet the developmental needs of the child during their toddler and primary years to prepare the hand for writing.
